All ages and skill levels are eligible and welcome.
This tournament requires United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership. If you are not yet a USCF member, you can obtain membership at this USCF link.
The tournament is organized by the Bellingham Knights Chess Club, a private non-profit chess club founded in 2015.
4 rounds of play with Swiss system pairing
G/60 5d (60 minutes per player, 5-second delay)
All games be notated. Notation is no longer required when either player has 5 minutes left on their clock.
Paper notation sheets will be the only medium to notate, and must be visible to both players on the table. You can write down your move before or after you move the piece.
All games will be played at 60 minutes per player with 5 second delay.
Draws need to be offered on your turn to move. Draws can be declined by making a turn or verbally saying “No.”
USCF rules dictate that any monetary prize must be split between tied players, we will not be able to do a blitz off like normal. Example: If Player 1 and Player 2 tie for 1st place, and 1st place has a $60 cash prize, then each player will take home $30 and "split" 1st place. 2nd place will be divided upon those in 2nd place.
Touch moves are in effect. If you touch a piece you must move it, if you touch your opponent's piece you must take it.
Byes may be given to players when there is an odd number of players in a section. 1/2 point byes can be given for rounds 1-4 but must be committed to before the 1st round.
Absolutely no interfering with other players games, this will result in a immediate disqualification to the player interfering with no refund.
Cheating is an automatic disqualification. Cheating can be purposefully affecting the outcome of the game by unfair means, such as but not limited to receiving outside help, or moving pieces when your opponent is not looking.
Cell phones must be turned off in the play area. Cell phone usage is not allowed in the play hall area at any time.
Any disputes or rule infractions will be resolved by Tournament Director, Tanner Feemster.
